French Toast Wholegrain

Start your day with whole grain breakfast. Including whole grain in your breakfast has lots of benefits. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast provides you with the energy and nutrients that lead to increased energy levels throughout the day. Studies show that breakfast can be important in maintaining a healthy body weight. Many of the valuable nutrients in grains are in the germ and outer covering that are removed in refined grains. Products made from whole grains retain most of their nutritive value; their high fiber content also adds texture and is filling.

Since whole grain contains a lot of fiber, it helps in digestion. The fiber content keeps bowel movements regular.  People who eat more fiber need fewer laxatives. They help ward off diverticulosis, the condition in which little pouches form in the colon wall, causing inflammation, constipation, diarrhea and pain. Whole grains not only help prevent your body from absorbing “bad” cholesterol. They also lower blood pressure.

Typical south indian breakfasts as Idly and Dosa are common at my home. I had to learn few continental breakfasts to satisfy my kids. I say to my older one she should have been born in Italy. She looooves Italian food. She gets bored with my Idly’s and Dosa’s quickly. When I looked for french toast recipes I saw it calls for Challah bread. I didn’t know what it is and where to buy. While shopping at grocery store, i found challah bread. It is not whole grain bread. I only use whole-grain at my home. My kids don’t know the recipe. 😉 So I went ahead and made french toast with whole grain bread I had at home. Not bad at all. It turned out so good. My kids love it to this day.
